I'M COMING VIRGINIA
Words by Donald Heywood
Music by Will Marion Cook
Arranged for plectrum banjo by Ed Cuneo
One of the
characteristics of this composition, is the sustained
melody note accompanied by a moving chord line on the
inside. It will be important to do soft sustained tremolo
of the melody note while moving the chords in the correct
tempo, (easier said than done.) If you are working on your
duo style technique, this tune is natural exercise for
you.
I have included the verse in F minor which was arranged, for variety, with the
melody partially on the inside.
Play the song as a
precise solo, A cappella, once through as arranged. If you
are with an ensemble, do choruses after the intervening
verse.
Note: There are arguably
several ways the harmonic structure of this song is
interpreted by professional trad musicians. If you have an original copyrighted version of the song and you spot problems in the tune the way I have it, please, by all means, let me know and I will take a look at it.
Generally speaking, if
there is no chord over the note, play it singly. Below is
a short sample of the arrangement.
Arrangements will be personalized and printed on 8 1/2 by
11, bright white, 24lb paper.
Please note: All shipping costs are for delivery in the US only. Other customers can make special arrangements by contacting Ed Cuneo directly via e-mail.
Price for solo - $7.00 plus $1.50 shipping and handling
